Sugar Coat - What's it Like Out 12" LP

Sugar Coat! LP is OUT!

Our leader Danielle Quinn of Hither Green, London SE13 does the vocals (when her kids are in bed) under a blanket. Pylon King, bought out of retirement especially plays all the instruments and is the producer. Billy Reeves (Sophie Ellis-Bextor) writes the songs with Danielle.  We met in hospital.

We asked Neil Conti if he’d play drums on it via facebook, he said yes on the Tuesday and we got the parts on the Thursday as he was testing some new microphones. Neil was in Prefab Sprout, the second-best band ever.

Royal Mint Records of Helsinki's unique designs of our first single got us in the 2018 Guinness Book of Records and on ITV. “World's first playable jigsaw puzzle” - I know... how would that work? If you took it apart and put it back together again would it play a different song? What about the ridges? Basically, Cameron at Royal Mint is very good at making records look like other things. We never said it was a jigsaw puzzle - Google ‘NME Jigsaw Vinyl Sugar Coat’ for the story that sent it ‘viral’.

The first album (‘Excuse The Mess’) was one of the Daily Mirror albums of the week, was praised by celeb fan Danny Baker on twitter, and was selected as one of the ‘picks of the month’ in Mojo.  ETM’s closer ‘I Didn’t’ became a favourite on the Gideon Coe BBC 6Music late show.

'What's It Like Out?' is named after a Penelope Gillatt short story collection.

It’s a heavy concept album about parenting in the second decade of the 21st C.
